Mentor Project Officer – Waterford and South Tipperary

Le Chéile Mentoring & Youth Justice Support Services is recruiting a highly motivated person for the role of Mentor Project Officer. The Mentor Project Officer will support volunteer mentors to provide a mentoring service for young people who have been referred for mentoring by the Garda Youth Diversion Projects.

Le Chéile is an innovative organisation which enables young people and parents who are involved in the justice system the opportunity to avail of mentoring and family support services in the community with the assistance of volunteers who are recruited, trained, supervised and supported by our staff.

Le Chéile has recently been allocated funding for two pilot mentoring projects, through Dormant Accounts Funding. The Garda Youth Diversion Programme (GYDP) Pilot Project Officer will report to the Mentoring Team Leader, and will work closely with other Le Chéile staff and the relevant GYDP Projects.

This post will be based in Waterford City and will cover Waterford City and County and South Tipperary. At times national travel will be required.

Candidates should have the following:

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Youth and Community Work, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Social Science or other related area.
  • 2 years full time experience of working with young people or in the youth work sector.
  • Experience of working with volunteers, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  • Clean Driving License and own car.
  • Candidates will be subject to Garda vetting and must be of good character.

Desirable Requirements

  • Understanding of and experience in delivering and facilitating programmes related to Mentoring.
  • Understanding of and experience in delivering and facilitating programmes related to Mentoring.
  • Experience of training, managing and supervising volunteers or staff.
  • Experience in and understanding of the Youth Justice System.
  • Excellent networking skills and the ability to liaise with the key players involved

 

Flexible hours are required including some nights and weekends
This is a 37 hours per week position on a 12 month fixed term contract – renewable subject to
available funding.
