Youth Mentoring Volunteer
For youth mentoring, a mentor is a volunteer aged 20 and over who acts a as a role model, advisor and friend to a young person (mentee). You are asked to give 3 hours a week for 2 years and attend monthly case supervision and ongoing training.
The young people we work with are between 12 and 18 years old and are referred to the project through a Probation Bond or Mentor Order as their Probation Officer has recommended them for the project. Le Chéile aims to provide the young person with a positive role model, to engage them in social activities and to help them uncover and achieve their goals.
No experience is required as full training is provided before becoming a mentor. The training covers such topics as understanding Mentoring, building a relationship, values and attitudes, why young people get involved in crime, policies and procedures, child protection.
As a mentor, you will receive ongoing training and telephone support and group case supervision. Le Chéile tries to ensure that every person who volunteers a Mentor with us is supported, valued and recognised in their role.
